Distinctive Unit Insignia


Description/Blazon
A silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height consisting of a blue pentagonal fort surmounted by a silver color winged bayonet ascending diagonally to dexter, the device on an arched black scroll inscribed "TO OUR UTMOST" in silver color metal letters.

Symbolism
The five sides of the pentagonal fort represent five major areas of the Battalion's combat support mission: supply, maintenance, transportation, medical service and administration. The winged bayonet alludes to the airborne qualifications and the secondary mission to fight as Infantry when required.

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 28 May 1965.

Per fess dancette of three Sable and Or, in chief a torii gate of the second and in base a chevron interlaced with a chevron reversed couped Gules.

Crest

On a wreath Or and Sable, surmounting a pentagonal fort Azure fimbriated of the first, a bayonet point up bendwise Proper, conjoining the upper edge of the blade a stylized wing Argent.

Symbolism

Shield

The extended support mission of the battalion is symbolized by the interlacing chevrons. The torii gate and the indented partition line simulating coral formations, allude to Okinawa where the battalion was activated. The motto indicates the absolute determination of the battalion to give its all in accomplishing its mission.

Crest

The pentagonal fort symbolizes the battalion's five main mission elements: supply, maintenance, transportation, medical service and administration. The bayonet refers to the secondary mission requirement to fight as Infantry, the wings recall airborne qualifications and the Aviation branch. Blue (DOD blue) denotes defense and refers again to airborne capabilities. Gold signifies excellence.

Background
The coat of arms was originally approved on 18 November 1964. It was amended to add a crest on 24 May 2005.
